Ways to Protect Your Website From Malware
It has been found that in a single day the number of malwares detected are above 1 million. Google can blacklist your website if even a single infection is detected by it. Above 10000 sites are blacklisted by Google every day. So, the website should not contain any malware in it.
Cyber attacks occur mostly on SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises). Every day more than 30000 sites of SME become the target of cyber attack.
If a cyber attack occurs on the site then it can damage your business. A single attack can cost you $50000. So, in order to protect the private data of the customers you must take measures to protect the site from these issues.
Now I will describe about 5 ways to protect your website from malware.
1.CMS should always remain updated – The website of your business can be managed in a cost-effective and easy way if it uses a CMS (Content Management System). WordPress is an example of CMS. There are a lot of chances of cyber attack on these systems and the data and server can be accessed from the backdoor. The security of the site can remain strong if themes and plugins of the system remain updated always.
2.Scanning the website – Sometimes we are unable to notice the malware or viruses of sites for a long time and they can damage our data. It is because their nature is evasive. A virus is basically a code which can be injected into a site’s code. So, if a code is present in the site that is harmful for it then it can easily be detected by scanning the site by taking the help of a software made for this purpose. In this way you can keep your site secured.
3.Using WAF to prevent attackers – It is possible that the threats from the website can be removed. But what will you do if these come for the second time? In that case you have to take the help of Web Application Firewalls (WAF) in order to protect the site from attackers. Evaluation of traffic, checking its behaviour and information requested by it, are all taken care of by WAF. Malicious traffic will be blocked by it and legitimate traffic will be allowed by it.
4.Compliance with PCI – To keep credit cards secure that have to be used in a trade we need to take the help of PCI. Here a security posture is given to the site in a documented format thereby giving protection to the trade and consumers against fraud and cyber attacks. The breaching of data can occur and as a result the reputation of your brand can be ruined, you can be fined by the government and it can damage you financially also if PCI standards are not complied with.
5.Use of strong passwords – Some weak passwords are still in use today. A strong password contains special characters or digits, combination of lowercase and uppercase letters, dictionary words not used, and it is of at least 8 characters. To keep your private data safe, the site’s backend must always use strong passwords.
