Too flat, drooping, not shapely enough … There are various reasons for succumbing to plastic surgery of the buttocks. Discover the different techniques to reshape your buttocks.
Since Kim Kardashian showed it to the world, her butt has become just as much, if not more, famous as its owner. Only here, some are not as satisfied as Kanye West’s wife with what Mother Nature has given them. The only option (for those who don’t want to hear about sports)? A stroke of the scalpel. From the most “soft” to the most invasive, Dr Laurent Benadiba, plastic surgeon, tells us all about the different techniques for reshaping the buttocks.
Hyaluronic acid injection
The technique: A German laboratory has just released a brand new hyaluronic acid sufficiently crosslinked to give a beautiful volume. Under local anesthesia, the practitioner injects approximately 100 grams of product through the butt, fan-shaped, and spreading under the skin, as deeply as possible, but without touching the muscle. The injection is made in the upper dial of the butt through a “hole” of less than 2 millimeters. The intervention lasts 30 minutes.
The consequences: You can go out with a modeling bandage so that the product does not migrate and sit down immediately. No pain. It is advisable to sleep on your stomach for the first few nights and to avoid sport for 10 days. The contraindications are rare, but a risk of allergy cannot be excluded.
The price: 3000 € for the product plus practitioner fees, therefore 4500 € in general. To be redone approximately every 18 months.
The technique: It consist of fat transfer to hips area from other parts of body, such as thighs etc. In the operating room, under general anesthesia, 300 to 400 grams are taken by liposuction for each buttock knowing that at least 20% of this fat will not “take”. Surgeons choose the fat where it is of good quality (thighs for example) It is washed in a sterile tank where it is left to settle. Experts can then inject a clean fat by depositing it in regular layers and fans on the top of the butt in order to shape them. The intervention lasts between an hour and an hour and a half.
The consequences: They are not very painful. The patient can go home within hours. She can sit down right away, taking care to put her weight on the thighs instead, and must wear a restraining “panty” for a fortnight.
The price: 4000 to 6000 € for a result that lasts for life.
The technique: For those who have lost much weight and who have excess skin under the butt, the excess skin is removed in order to lift the sagging buttock. If the relaxation only concerns the lower part of the buttock, the subgluteal groove is redefined, and the excess skin is removed. The scar is hidden in the gluteal fold. But we can also put together a buttock “like a drop of oil”. It is lifted up several centimeters by removing a spindle of skin and fat in the middle of the buttock which tightens and reshapes it. This implies a larger V scar, but which will be hidden in normal underwear. These two operations are performed in the operating room, under general anesthesia and last two hours maximum.
The consequences: They are not too painful. The patient remains hospitalized for 24 hours and can wear a compression panty for 15 days. She is on anticoagulants for 15 days. She can resume sport after six weeks and her social or professional activity after 1 to 2 weeks.
The price: Around € 5,000.
The technique: Either the implant is placed under the skin, and as it is a very busy place it risks moving, or it is placed in the muscle. It is the technique which gives the most natural result but which is also very painful and difficult to achieve. It is slipped into the open muscle, sandwiched after an incision of about 6 centimeters made in the intergluteal fold. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and lasts from an hour and a half to two hours. The patient is hospitalized overnight.
The consequences: They are often painful. We take analgesics and we are prohibited from sitting on the buttocks for 10 days (we sit on the thighs). Next, care should be taken to avoid infections and not to irritate the sciatic nerve. No sport for 6 weeks. And resumption of professional activities after two weeks. The result is lasting.
