Almost everybody has learned or believes that oysters are an aphrodisiac, but nobody appears to know why. Wired glanced back at the study by Italian scientists who cracked open some mollusks and discovered an amino acid that raised their testosterone level and progesterone when given to lab rats.
Those higher hormone levels don’t mean the rats felt incredibly sexy, but the connection makes sense.
Most interestingly, though, it wasn’t oysters that established this amino acid. It was mussels. So on your next date, maybe skip the oysters and order module fries instead.
